We bought a jungle

Welcome!  We are going to get right to it here because time I spend typing is time that I am not spending doing something else (like showering).  To bring you up to speed, Flick and I moved into a great new house in Boulder just before having Ellie back in 2011:

I know what you are thinking..."so where is this house you speak of"?  Well, the previous owner had somewhat of a gardening problem, in that he didn't really believe in it.  So we bought a great house that was hidden behind a lot of vegetation.  As you can imagine, the air quality was really good with all that photosynthesis going on.  After having lived here for over a year we have made some serious progress on the front yard, thanks to all the help from our parents and a little of our own elbow grease.

It was a LOT of work to get that all that stuff out of there and we are so pleased to be able to actually see the front of the house.  We made a lot of progress on our own but we have decided to call in the reinforcements to finish off the job.  We enlisted the help of a professional landscaper to help us get an actual lawn in.  Now that Ellie is getting older and LOVES to be outside, we want to make sure we actually have a good yard for her to play in.  Here is a nice shot of the back yard space from the deck:

Although we made the landscaper decision the day before the above photo was taken, we ended up being delayed a week by this:

We love Boulder in the spring!  The snowy photo was taken 2 days after the sunny, springlike one above.  But all 14 inches of snow melted away in a matter of a few days so our landscaper was able to come out and start up the "vegetation removal" process.  Nothing has been ripped out but it is all slowly shriveling up back there (we have to kill off all the weeds before we can introduce grass) - so hopefully we'll soon have some nice images of our lawn turning brown while everyone around us is lush and green.  In the meantime, check out the "Photo Time" page for some more extensive yard documentation.  We are hoping for some dramatic "after" shots in a month or so if everything goes according to plan!
